Do's & Don't of the year.
And well in my experience of second year their are a lot of things I would do differently, this is also a great opportunity to become more confident in my public speaking abilities.
These are some of the questions I was asked and the answers I gave.
Thursday Induction 2.30 till 4.00
Presentation 12.00 till 12.30
1. What was the difference between 1st Year and Second Year?
- More Work
- Harder on Deadlines
- Making sure when you have a crit you have made improvements
- Context ( Harder)
- Looking into your own individual styles ( more experiments with different process in your own work) example, photography, 3D, Animation etc.
- Becoming critical about your work
- Understanding the connection between your own work and context.
2. How did my work change?
( After Basic Design Principles)
- At the end of 1st year I found my skills with drawing with Scissors
- Went back to looking at Design Principles, Line, Shape, Texture
- A knew knowledge of textures and shapes and how I connect them and us them in my work
- Layout skills
- Visual World Keri Smith ( BIG HELP IN MY 1ST YEAR)
- Creating Narratives & Characters became a second language
- Less research than 1st Year concentrating more on artist that influence your practise
- Not thinking your work is ever finished because it isn't, their are always other ways your can us your work.
3. How was Context Different?
- You don't sit their an just take notes and ignore them. YOU NEED TO HAVE A NOTE BOOK AND PEN WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES.
- Gary want to hear your opinions but it has to be inforced by research an argument.
- READ, READ, READ. Us the references he gives you they will help you in your work.
- Come into context on time and with an open mind ( You learn something new everyday).
- Come in late you get Gary's Mad Face :/
- Presentations will be the hardest but the most rewarding.
- Come to your tutorials with lots of reference... You & Gary can pick the bones out of it.
