Beyond The Book Brief

Well I think I am officially a third year seeing this new Brief, but I have more challenges to face so bring it on.
The Brief looks at two pain aims of studding in this field?
1. Illustrator- Is were you take briefs from others and work from a piece of text ( ME).
2. Authorstrator- Is were you create and generate your own work, producing your own stories.
Taking into consideration all the work I have produced this year I think I'm more in the area of an Illustrator because I work very well with information and the control element of the writing is something I have enjoyed working with.
In the brief their were 4 opinions the chosen area I wanted to work in was Scary Stories
1. Because my work is very child like an playful I wanted to look in the area or something more darker and sinister to work with
2. The themes they used as examples gave me great ideas? Ring a Ring A Roses etc
3. An in relation to my Context it would be interesting to learn about the historical meanings behind old classical Nursery Rhymes that I used to sing as a child.
4. Also strange sayings.... Break a Leg, Cat Got Your Tongue etc finding out the meanings was also an interesting part to my work.

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
If I shall die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take. Amen.

- I said this every night to my sons & daughters. It's a wonder I didn't have nightmares about not waking up ever again.

This example of a pray my grandmother used to tell my farther was very interesting to me, when I started to research these Nursery Rhymes I wasn't sure what to expect but a lot of the Rhymes I see and hear children singing are very sinister and are about death.
The key elements I wanted to focus on where theses FEAR, OLD WIVES TALES, HORROR, CHILDHOOD,IMAGINARY BEINGS, STORIES, LYRICS, SUPERNATURAL, ENCHANTMENT & MAGIC.
Research on these elements can be found in my Research File
